The Five Acres School is dedicated to working with parents and the community to inspire our students to respect diversity, and to create and achieve educational goals. We strive to infuse a love of learning in a safe and caring environment. Our Mission is accomplished with:

• Sophisticated verbal interventions to crisis behaviors including: Pro-Act; Life Space Interviews; The Goodell Method; The Hierarchy of Response; School-wide Behavioral Support Plan; STAR Team; and Student Honor Room
• A veteran team of 31 special educators, including 12 team members with over 10 years of experience, and 4 with over 20 years at Five Acres
• An active Program Review process that collects academic and behavioral data daily, reports data to our Research Department monthly, and develops annual Single Plans for Student Achievement and Action Plans based upon this data
• Park-like grounds, including a 5 acre playground, baseball field, basketball courts, play structures and an in-ground swimming pool
• Enriched curriculum including a 9000 volume Accelerated Reader classroom library, and the ability to highly individualize instruction in all core areas
• Health and Physical Education programs that promote healthy eating, fitness and grooming habits
• Multiple student computers in every classroom that allow filtered Internet access for research and computer aided access to the core curriculum
• Social Skills programs including “Know The Code” from Boys Town Press and “Social Decision Making/Social Problem Solving” from Research Press
• A Library/media program that includes over 6000 volumes and a full-time librarian
• Small class sizes—classes of 8 or 12 students
• A staff to student ratio of 1:4, with additional STAR, float and administrative support
• Certified by the California Department of Education (CDE)
• Accredited by the Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC)

The Five Acres School has established the following Expected School-wide Learning Results (ESLR’s) that focus instruction.
