Hope and Winter Magic

Saturday, Dec. 15th Five Acres was honored to have over 50 employees from Los Angeles-based design company Complete Clothing Company sponsor a “Snow Day” for nearly 70 children living in residential care at Altadena-based Five Acres, a child and family services agency. The event was part of their holiday philanthropic efforts to give back to their local community. Complete Clothing Company employees engaged in a volunteer activity day complete with real snow, holiday arts and crafts, photos with Santa and food. The event provided children living in Five Acres’ care with the opportunity to see and play in snow, which was a first for many of the children.

“This day has been the most memorable experience I’ve had yet!” said a youth living at Five Acres.

“The holidays are a very challenging time of year for foster children living outside of a permanent family. During this time of the year, providing these children with an opportunity like a snow day and demonstrated support by the community is such an inspiration to all of us at Five Acres. Until we are able to establish or find a safe, loving permanent family for every one of our Five Acres children, we are committed to providing them with experiences that they might otherwise miss. The generosity of Complete Clothing Company in providing a wonderful holiday memory for our children will bring them the extra hope and holiday cheer they need this season,” said Chanel Boutakidis, Five Acres’ Chief Executive Officer.

Five Acres’ main campus in Altadena was transformed into a Winter Wonderland filled with snow. Children were able to sled down an 8-foot hill, make snow men and snow balls and participate in activities that included decorating stockings, Christmas trees and ornaments. Cookie and gingerbread house decorating tables were also available.

Complete Clothing Company also granted wishes for 70 children in residence and every child received a stuffed Christmas stocking that included a ticket to Disneyland.

“While charity is not seasonal, it is an absolute privilege to share the Christmas spirit with the children of Five Acres. It is our commitment to give back to our community year round and this event was about pure joy both for our employees and the children of Five Acres. This is the one time of year when there should be no challenges and we saw nothing but smiles. It really is our privilege and we are so thankful for the opportunity,” said Complete Clothing President John Meyer.

The evening concluded with a BBQ dinner and photos with Santa. During the holiday season, Five Acres looks to members of the community to support children and families experiencing challenges who receive services from Five Acres’ community-based and residential programs. Five Acres is collecting unwrapped toys, gift cards and cash donations to help nearly 250 area families in need.
